On January 18 and 19 2021, a webinar on the preparation of the BMBF's ErUM-Data call will take place (18.01.21 14:00-17:30, 19.01.21 09:00-11:30). Project proposals on the two focal areas of machine learning and AI must be prepared in good time, not least because overarching and interdisciplinary networks are to be formed. The project goals should involve several communities and include researchers from the fields of mathematics and computer science. Please register until January 17, 2021, at: https://indico.desy.de/event/28330/ |

We would like to draw your attention to the rapid access programs of the centers for COVID-19 research.
Research with synchrotron radiation and neutrons makes a valuable contribution to the development of drugs and vaccines against COVID-19. The first results have already been published and other studies are ongoing, see television report on RBB. Related investigations have priority at the facilites. [more] |
KFS and KFN support proposal of consortium for research data management
 |
The aim of the national research data infrastructure (NFDI) is to systematically manage scientific and research data, provide long-term data storage, backup and accessibility, and network the data both nationally and internationally. The NFDI will bring multiple stakeholders together in a coordinated network of consortia tasked with providing science-driven data services to research communities. In mid-October, the neutron and synchrotron communities have subnitted a proposal for an NFDI consortium ("DAta from PHoton and Neutron Experiments") to DFG. Here, you can read the summary of the proposal. [more]

Challenges and Opportunities of Digital Transformation in Fundamental Research on Universe and Matter, April 2019
 |
The committees which represent the users in ErUM (Exploration of the Universe and Matter) have published recommendataions on digital transformation in fundamental research on universe and matter. The paper is based on workshop involving the users and the intensive coordination of the committees research with neutrons (KFN), ions and nuclear probes (KFSI), synchrotron radiation (KFS), astroparticle Physics (KAT), particle physics (KET), accelerator physics (KfB), hadron and nuclear physics (KHuK) an the Council of German Observatories (RDS). It is part of the preparations for the new action plan ErUM data of the BMBF which aims at funding digital transformation in the research area. It is all about data management, standards, storage, accessibility of data and the use of artificial intelligience and other chances of digitalisation.[more]

PaNOSC, Photon and Neutron Open Science Cloud is a European project (financed by the INFRAEOSC-04 call) for making FAIR data a reality in 6 ESFRI Research Infrastructures (RIs), developing and providing services for scientific data and connecting these to the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC). It started on the 1st of December 2018, and was officially launched on January 15th, 2019. The project, which will run until December 2022, is coordinated by the ESRF. |
