KFN email newsletter on 10 February 2022

Dear friends of neutron research,

> Call for nominations for KFN awards

At SNI2022, KFN will award two prizes to young scientists, the Wolfram Prandl Prize, which has now been in existence for 20 years, and the new Instrumentation Prize for Neutron Research. They are endowed with 2500 € each. Proposals are accepted until 30 May 2022, see

The Wolfram Prandl Prize is awarded for outstanding work in which investigations with neutrons played a significant role. This explicitly includes all neutron applications besides neutron scattering, see

The Instrumentation Prize is awarded for an outstanding work leading to method development or significant improvements of neutron-based instruments (e.g. neutron transport, energy resolution, detection, etc.), see

We look forward to receiving many letters!

> ENSA-Preise

Prizes have also been announced at European level, namely the Erwin Felix Levy Bertaut Prize, the Walter Hälg Prize and the Neutron Instrumentation and Innovation Award, for presentation at the International Conference on Neutron Scattering 2022 in Buenos Aires (ICNS 2022). The deadline for nominations is 31 March 2022, see

> ICNS (Buenos Aires, Argentina, 21.-25 August 2022)

The abstract deadline for the ICNS has been postponed to 14 February 2022, see

> Pilot call to support chemistry and biodeuteration through the DEMAX platform: 05 March 2022

The Deuteration and Macromolecular Crystallisation (DEMAX) platform at ESS supports neutron users from the soft matter, biology, life sciences and chemistry research areas. DEMAX is now opening another pilot call, with a focus on chemical and biological deuteration proposals. The proposal deadline is on 5 March 2022. You can read all about the call here:

> 24. Laboratory Course Neutron Scattering des JCNS

The 15th Laboratory Course Neutron Scattering will take place September 5-16, 2011 in Juelich and Garching/Munich, Germany.

The course will consist of one week of lectures and exercises and one week of practical training at the instruments of the research reactor FRM II. It is the aim of the course to give a realistic insight into the
experimental technique and its scientific power.

Students of physics, chemistry, material science and biosciences are
invited to apply for participation. There is no tuition fee.
Accommodation and meals during the course will be provided by JCNS.
Travel expenses will be reimbursed for a limited number of foreign students.

For further information and to apply for participation please visit our

Deadline for application is May 15, 2022.
