[kfn-info] Digital transformation, SNI2022 and deadlines

KFN email newsletter on 28 June 2022

Dear friends of research with neutrons,

At the KFN meeting last week, it became clear how broadly the activities on digital transformation in the BMBF (ErUm-Data) and DFG (DAPHNE4NFDI) programmes are designed, and how important they are for neutron researchers. We are convinced that digitalisation will make our scientific work more effective and better. That is why we call on you to get involved in topics such as generalisation of analysis software and data ingestion, metadata storage and archiving - for example, by participating in DIGUM's current survey on Big Data Analytics, at the JCNS Workshop 2022 or by submitting a poster abstract for SNI2022 on the topic of AI or data. At SNI2022, there will be two microsymposia on this topic ("Digitalisation" and "Artificial Intelligence for Large-scale Facilities"), which will help to exchange information on the state of the art and to establish contacts.

> Survey on Big Data Analytics

What data analytics techniques are you interested in? What do you do with it? Which languages, analytics tools, data formats, machine learning packages and hardware platforms do you use? Which online services or events on the topic would be interesting for you? The developers are asking these and a few other questions about Big Data Analytics in DIGUM, and anyone with experience in this area is invited to take part in the survey here:

> SNI2022: Late Poster Abstract Submission and Early Bird Registration until 10 July 2022
05 - 07 September 2022, Berlin

For the 5th Conference on Research with Synchrotron Radiation, Neutrons and Ion Beams at Large Facilities 05 - 07 September 2022 in Berlin (SNI2022), you can still upload a poster abstract until 10 July and register at the Early Bird rate. We look forward to seeing many of you there!

> Minutes of the KFN meeting

In addition to the Digital Transformation and the SNI2022, there are of course other important topics currently occupying the KFN, for example the BMBF funding programmes, the topic of transfer, news from the neutron centres and the novel compact neutron sources or the planned HBS in Jülich. Here you can find a summary of the last meeting on 20 June 2022:
