KFN email newsletter on May 6, 2020

Dear friends of research with neutrons,

>>>Call for nomination for the Wolfram Prandl-Prize

This year, the KFN will award the Wolfram Prandl-Prize again - to a young scientist in neutron research, including method development and fundamental physics. The laureate will receive 2500 &Euro; and get the opportunity to hold a prominent talk at the DN2020 in December (see below). Please send proposals of candidates (younger than 40 years and not holding a professorship) to until May 30, 2020. There are more details at and

>>>German Neutron Scattering Conference in Munich: Website now online!

The website of the German Neutron Scattering Conference and the MLZ User Meeting is at

There, you can also upload the abstract and register for both meetings, which will take place successively in the Hilton Hotel Munich Park (User Meeting Dec. 8/9, 2020 and DN Dec. 9/10, 2020). Abstract deadline is August 1 and registration deadline is October 25. We look forward to meeting you in Munich!

The corona pandemic currently restricts research with neutrons. At MLZ, the 48. cycle was postponed indefinitely. When it goes on, especially corona related research will be faciliated by fast access and remote experiments, see
This is planned on a short and a longer-term scale, also at ILL. There, proposals with industrial partners will be supported through the InnovaXN programme, for which the second call for projects will be opened shortly, and through its PhD programme (next call autumn 2020), see

>>>Obituary Jürgen Kalus

Prof. Dr. em. Jürgen Kalus died on March 23 at the age of 85. We have received the news with great sadness. Jürgen Kalus was deputy chair in the first KFN and worked closely together with Prof. Dr. Tasso Springer, the "Father" of the KFN, who appreciated Jürgen Kalus' competence and overview. Not only the KFN owes him a lot. From 1975 until his retirement in 2000 he held the chair of Experimental Physics I at the University of Bayreuth.
