[kfn-info] Digital Agenda, MLZ, ECNS, ENSA, RACIRI and deadlines (Jan. 24, 2019)

KFN email newsletter on Jan. 24, 2019

Dear neutron users,

neutron researchers are faced by new challenges and possibilities in this news year. We wish you strength, health and success!

The KFN will go on informing you about deadlines, opportunities and its own work through the mailing list “knf-info” – in addition to the website, once a month. These emails are a service, but you are welcome to take them as occasion to contact us with questions or information. You will always find upcoming deadlines in the end of our emails.

Digital Agenda of the BMBF

The eight committees in the program ErUM (research on universe and matter) of the BMBF have summarized their discussion in a draft on strategic recommendations in the digital agenda. This draft will be returned to us by the BMBF for revision. In the end, it will be the basis for new initiatives in a program analogous to ErUM-Pro (former joint research). The KFN would like to ask all users to think about contents-related options in good time and in a coordinated manner. The aim is to make neutron research more efficient by using the new possibilities in data management and treatment.

MLZ 2019

The MLZ faces different new challenges this year, which are met with great commitment by all those who are involved. In this process, the MLZ is being supported from all sides. We as users are looking forward to 2.5 successful cycles this year.

ECNS2019

The ECNS2019 takes place in St. Petersburg (July 1-5, 2019). There will be an opening event already on June 30. Abstracts have to be submitted until February 15, 2019. We hope on an inspiring conference with many participants!

ENSA

At the ENSA meeting on January 14, 2019, Lambert van Eijck was greeted as new vice chair. We thank Feri Mezei who had this responsibility for several years. ENSA has 20 member states now, with different rights, and will actively represent the user’s needs in the changing neutron research landscape. In this context, ENSA chairs the workpackage2 in funding through BrightnESS2.

A new price for young scientists who engage in instrumentation and innovation in neutron research will be awarded by ENSA at the ECNS for the first time. Proposals can be submitted to ENSA, but also via the KFN. The call will be published on the KFN website.

RACIRI summer school

This year’s RACIRI summer school will take place from August 4 to 11 in Kaliningrad. Students from Germany, Russia and Sweden will get a unique insight into research with neutrons and synchrotron radiation. We will be back with more information.

with kind regards,

Astrid Schneidewind, KFN chair
