[kfn-info] MLZ proposal deadline 27.03., DN2020, RACIRI and BARI

KFN email newsletter in March 26, 2020

Dear neutron users,

Research goes on under changed conditions. MLZ calls for proposals (regular or rapid access) until tomorrow, and the KFN is currently planning two events, i.e. the election in October and the German Neutron Scattering Conference in December.

>> MLZ Call for Proposals

The MLZ proposal deadline is on March 27th, 2020 – both for regular proposals and proposals in the Rapic Access Programme. The next cycle will start on May 5, 2020.

>>DN2020 on Oct. 9-10, 2020 in Munich

The German Neutron Scattering Conference 2020 will take place immediately after the MLZ User meeting (Dec. 8-9, 2020) in Munich. A common poster session will join the two events and offer the opportunity for exchange with MLZ users. MLZ offers one-off support for the DN2020 by covering costs and providing joint registration for the two events. The organization team led by C. Papadakis at TUM (E13) and the KFN program committee has started preparations. We look forward to meeting you in Munich in December!

For students, we would like to highlights two upcoming events, the RACIRI summer school 2020, which is to take place in Sweden in August, and the exchange program BARI, which will start in spite of the limitations due to the corona virus:

>> RACIRI Summer School 2020: Advanced Materials Design at X-ray and Neutron Facilities

In Varberg (Sweden), south of Göteborg, this year’s RACIRI Summer School 2020 is planned to take place under the topic “X-rays and Neutrons for a Sustainable Future - Advanced Materials, Environment, Human Health” from August 23 to 30, 2020 – subject to the timely and sufficient containment of the coronavirus pandemic. Students from Germany, Russia and Sweden can gain unique insights into research with neutrons and photons. The school offers up to 20 full scholarships (travel, food and lodging) for students and young scientists working at German research institutions or universities and who are residents of Germany. Application deadline is May 01, 2020.

>>Baltic Science Network Mobility Programme for Research Internships (BARI)

BARI offers summer research internships with appropriate academic training across the Baltic Sea Region to students with interest in Life Sciences, Photon & Neutron Science and Welfare State. During their internship, students will assist in research and lab work for a proposed project. They will be hosted by research groups, laboratories, and doctoral students who wish to strengthen their ties within the Baltic Sea Region by hosting a motivated and well-qualified student. Successful applicants will receive a scholarship to help cover living expenses and travel costs. Funding is available for a period of up to three months.
