[kfn-info] SNI2022 Call for Abstracts etc

KFN email newsletter on 03 March 2022

Dear friends of research with neutrons,

today we have news about the SNI2022, we would also like to announce the first DIG-UM digitisation workshop and remind you of the KFN awards call for nomination:

SNI2022 Registration & Call for Abstracts is open!

The Registration & Call for Abstracts for the 5th Conference for Research with Synchrotron Radiation, Neutrons and Ion Beams at Large Facilities on 5-7 September 2022 in Berlin is now open: https://www.helmholtz-berlin.de/events/sni-2022/registration_en.html

> Abstracts for talks and posters can be submitted until 24 April.

The Early Bird rate of 180 € (regular) or 90 € (PhD students) is valid until 26 June. Good to know: Students who have not yet started their doctoral studies can register free of charge until 20 March at the latest. For this purpose, a proof of the student's status and a letter of recommendation from the supervisor is required. We very much look forward to your contributions and your participation. Further Information about the conference can be found at hz-b.de/SNI2022.

Deep Learning Train-the-Trainer workshop

Throughout the year, DIG-UM, with support from the ErUM Data Hub, organises various workshops and schools on digitisation and related topics. The first workshop will take place on 30 and 31 March 2022 in Aachen. The aim is to train scientists in modern methods (artificial intelligence, machine learning,...) and to provide teaching materials that the participants can then use and disseminate as multipliers for their own teaching. Participants should come from all areas of the ErUM community. Information on the workshop and registration can be found at https://indico.scc.kit.edu/event/2645/. The participation fee consists of a contribution towards expenses of 50 €.

> The deadline for registration is 23 March 2022.

> Call for nominations for KFN awards

At SNI2022, KFN will award two prizes to young scientists, the Wolfram Prandl Prize, which has now been in existence for 20 years, and the new Instrumentation Prize for Neutron Research. They are endowed with 2500 € each. Proposals are accepted until 30 May 2022, see https://www.sni-portal.de/en/files/kfn-awards-call-2022

The Wolfram Prandl Prize is awarded for outstanding work in which investigations with neutrons played a significant role. This explicitly includes all neutron applications besides neutron scattering, see https://www.sni-portal.de/en/user-committees/committee-research-with-neutrons/kfn-awards/wolfram-prandl-prize?set_language=en

The Instrumentation Prize is awarded for an outstanding work leading to method development or significant improvements of neutron-based instruments (e.g. neutron transport, energy resolution, detection, etc.), see https://www.sni-portal.de/en/user-committees/committee-research-with-neutrons/kfn-awards/instrumentation-prize-neutron-research?set_language=en

We look forward to receiving many letters!

> ENSA Awards

Prizes have also been announced at European level, namely the Erwin Felix Levy Bertaut Prize, the Walter Hälg Prize and the Neutron Instrumentation and Innovation Award, for presentation at the International Conference on Neutron Scattering 2022 in Buenos Aires (ICNS 2022). The deadline for nominations is 31 March 2022, see https://ensa.tudelft.nl/awards/
