Prof. Dr. Martin Müller now also represents MLZ in the KFN, Feb. 04, 2021
Since January, Prof. Dr. Martin Müller has been the new director at the Heinz Maier-Leibnitz Zentrum (MLZ), succeeding Prof. Dr. Stephan Förster in the role. A materials physicist, he now represents the Helmholtz partners Forschungszentrum Jülich (FZJ) and Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht (HZG) in the Scientific Directorate of the MLZ. By rotation, Martin Müller will also be the spokesman of the directorate for a period of two years. Martin Müller has been involved in the KFN for a long time; he has represented the HZG in this body since 2016, and now also the MLZ. [more] |
Wolfram-Prandl-Prize for young scientist in neutron research 2020
Dec. 09, 2020: Dr. Sabrina Disch was awarded the Wolfram-Prandl-Prize for young scientists in the field of research with neutrons at the German Neutron Scattering Conference (DN2020, Online-Conference 09.-10.12.2020). It was awarded to her for outstanding research results for the understanding of structure, spin structure and spin dynamics of magnetic nanoparticles, their self-organisation and the resulting structures, achieved with innovative neutron scattering methods. Neutron users in Germany elect their representation for the next 3 years - deadline is November 17, 2020.
If you are registered with KFN because you are working with neutrons in Germany or as a German citizen abraod, you should make a mark in October and participate in the KFN election! You have received the election email containing your login and password from Polyas on October 27, 2020. The candidates introduce themselves here and the voting link is https://voting.polyas.com/d240b233-bdaa-497c-bec5-5abd67836dcb/?lang=EN. Be sure to vote until Nov. 17, 2020! |
Election appeal to all neutron users in Germany
In October, the neutron users in Germany elect their user representation, the 12th Committee Research with Neutrons (KFN). For the first time, the election is conducted online. Access is granted to all users who are registered with the KFN and who are entitled to vote. These are the candidates: [more] |

This year, the KFN will award the Wolfram Prandl-Prize again - to a young scientist in neutron research, including method development and fundamental physics. The laureate will receive 2500 € and get the opportunity to hold a prominent talk at the DN2020 in December. Please send proposals of candidates (younger than 40 years and not holding a professorship) to Astrid.Schneidewind@frm2.tum.de until May 30, 2020. There are more details in the call and on the website. |

Prof. Dr. em. Jürgen Kalus died on March 23rd, 2020 at the age of 85. We received this message with sadness. Jürgen Kalus was deputy chairman in the first KFN and worked together with the first chairman Prof. Dr. Tasso Springer, the "father" of the KFN, who appreciated the "competence and overview" of Jürgen Kalus. Not only the KFN owes him a lot. From 1975 up to his retirement in 2000, Jürgen Kalus was Professor of Experimental Physics I at the University of Bayreuth [more]

New cycles at ILL and MLZ
KFN wishes everyone a healthy, peaceful and successful year 2020! It's looking good for neutrons: New cycles start at ILL and at MLZ in January. The LENS initiative is running strongly, and the KFN is looking forward to an exciting year. One focus will be the digital transformation, and in summer, a new KFN will be elected. In autumn, the German Neutron Scattering Conference will take place in connection to the MLZ user meeting for the first time. We will continue to represent the insterest of neutron users on all levels and keep the users informed about our activities. |
