KFS candidate proposals, NFDI, RACIRI and XFEL

KFS email newsletter from June 2, 2020

Dear colleagues,

KFS election: Suggestions for candidates are collected

In October, the 12th Committee Research with Synchrotron Radiation will be elected. Who should represent your interests in this committee? We would be pleased to receive proposals for candidates from you who wish to represent your interests. The person in question should be able to speak for a research area and be willing to actively participate in the work of the KFS. In return, this committee offers the opportunity to help shape and improve the framework conditions for research with synchrotron radiation in dialogue with all those involved.

The prerequisite for a candidacy is that you are eligible to vote yourself (see statutes). Since the KFS is a user representation, it should be users working at a university or research institute that does not itself operate a synchrotron radiation source.

We kindly request that proposals be submitted to the KFS chair, Bridget Murphy (murphy@physik.uni-kiel.de), by June 15, 2020.

NFDI "DAPHNE" consortium not yet at the target

The Daphne application (DAta for PHoton and Neutron Experiments), although very well received, fell just below the cut-off and has not been recommended for funding in this round. We are encouraged by the fact that  the panel found that the project is of high scientific quality and convincing with its comprehensive approach. Therefore considering the constructive criticism we received from the expert panel, we plan to reapply in the next round in autumn. We would be pleased to receive further support from you, even if you have not yet participated.

RACIRI 2020 Webinar und RACIRI 2021 in Schweden

The RACIRI Summer School in the planned format has been postponed to 2021, but in 2020 there will be a webinar on "Research with X-rays and Neutrons on Current Topics of Global Priority", during the week of 24-28th August 2020, with the focus on "Human Health and Virus Research" and "Energy and Environment". Further information will be published on the RACIRI website.

COVID-19 related research call at the European XFEL

We would like to draw your attention to the call for expressions of interest for rapid access COVID-19 related research opportunities at the European XFEL.

The European XFEL would like to offer support to the global campaign against the novel Coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2, by offering specific and rapid access to the resources of the facility for this purpose. The scientific community worldwide is encouraged to submit expressions of interest in research opportunities by 17 June 2020. A dedicated online information meeting will be organized on 09 June 2020 17:30 CEST (Schenefeld/Hamburg time). Access information will be posted on the European XFEL homepage

With kind regards,

Bridget Murphy, Chair KFS (German Committee for Synchrotron Research)
