Dear colleagues,

ErUM-Data call for proposals published

The first call for proposals in the BMBF's new "ErUM-Data" action plan has now been published. Funding is available for collaborative projects in the field of "Software and Algorithms" for the exploration of the universe and matter (ErUM) with a focus on artificial intelligence and machine learning. The deadline for applications is 1 Sept. 2021. On 24 June 2021, PT DESY offers an online information event, see https://indico.desy.de/event/29587/

The funding is primarily designed for interdisciplinary cooperation. The work is to be carried out in collaborative projects with the relevant players from universities, research institutions and commercial enterprises, so that powerful software and algorithms can be jointly developed and brought into use.

Prepare ErUM-Pro call for proposals

The call for proposals in ErUM-Pro (formerly Verbundforschung) is expected in late summer. There will also be an information event on ErUM-Pro, with the participation of the ErUM committees.

The Zoom Conference will take place on 30 July 2021 from 1 to 3 pm. The event is primarily aimed at young researchers and others who are planning a proposal for the first time. Did you know, for example, that you do not need to have a habilitation to submit a proposal? The calls for proposals will be explained and there will be an opportunity to ask questions. Research with synchrotron radiation offers diverse perspectives

In the June issue of the "Physik Journal", an opinion page of the KFS was published under the title "Licht für die Zukunft – Die Forschung mit Synchrotronstrahlung bietet vielfältige Perspektiven". In it, the KFS strongly supports the upgrade plans of the centres and calls on the user community to get involved and critically participate in the development of the visions for the future.

RACIRI School

The next RACIRI School is currently planned for 12-19 March 2022 in a ski resort in northern Sweden. A one-day online event (lecture and plenary discussion) is envisaged for summer 2021.

ORSO

Reflectometry will be the focus of the "3rd Annual meeting of the Open Reflectivity Standards Organisation" (ORSO) next week (14-18 June 2021), which will take place online. It will start with plenary talks, followed by presentations and discussions on data formats, standards, data analysis, education and outreach.
