KFS email newsletter on April 12, 2021

Dear colleagues,

KFS statement on restrictions of research in the pandemic

At its last meetings, the Committee for Research with Synchrotron Radiation dealt intensively with the situation of researchers during the pandemic and also conducted a survey.

For the users of synchrotron radiation, the pandemic results in restrictions that, depending on the research area and professional situation, ranges from moderate to existentially threatening. Young researchers with third-party funding are particularly hard hit, both before and after their doctorate. ...

Current BMBF calls:

  • MaterialDigital 2 for funding of projects within the framework of the initiative for the digitalisation of materials research in Germany (deadline July 1, 2021), https://www.bmbf.de/foerderungen/bekanntmachung-3484.html
  • RÅC call for German-Swedish projects in material sciences and structural biology (deadlines May 4 and 12, 2021), https://www.bmbf.de/foerderungen/bekanntmachung-3502.html. The deadline is 12 May 2021, although on the Swedish side it is already 4 May 2021, and since these are collaborations, German partners must also observe this deadline. The projects should have a minimum duration of two and a maximum duration of four years and be structured with concrete milestones. If you have any questions, please contact the project management organization PT DESY, and there are also references on the PT DESY website, see https://pt.desy.de/bekanntmachungen/09032021___materie___rac/index_ger.html

ErUM-Data exchange platform

We would like to point out once again that the BMBF has published the action plan "From Big Data to Smart Data", see https://www.bmbf.de/upload_filestore/pub/Aktionsplan_ErUM_Data.pdf.  Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning is planned as the first focus. To facilitate the exchange among each other, all participants of the last ErUM-Data workshop and other interested parties should register in the ErUM-Data exchange platform. The platform is set up in a conference system, so the documents appear as abstracts. There, you can describe which research question most interests you in the context of artificial intelligence and machine learning, for which you would like to find partners. The abstracts can be edited any time.
